Gold exploration company rankings

Published by Lannister MiningLast updated:

These gold exploration company rankings order ten gold companies by a 1 to 7 stage rating, from West Red Lake Gold at 7 (producing) to Lannister Mining at 1 (exploration before a resource).

Gold Explorer Rankings is published by Lannister Mining, the company ranked tenth. Every entry gets the same rating scale, the same kinds of facts and a one-line reason for its position, so readers can check exactly why each company sits where it does. The rating measures stage, not investment quality.

How are gold exploration companies ranked here?

Each company is ranked by how close its main project is to producing gold, as reported in its latest cited release. Stage decides which risk dominates: discovery risk for explorers, financing and permitting risk for developers, construction risk for builders and operating risk for producers. Ranking on stage lets every entry be judged on one public, checkable fact.

Ties within the same rating are broken by progress toward a build decision. For example, Perpetua, U.S. Gold and Liberty Gold all rate 4, and are ordered by early works started, then permits granted, then feasibility study complete.

Common questions about these rankings

How are the companies ranked?
Companies are ranked by a 1 to 7 stage rating, from exploration before a resource up to commercial production. Ties are broken by how far each company has moved toward a build decision, such as early works started or permits granted. The full definitions are on our methodology page.
Where do the company facts come from?
Facts for nine companies come from a Farmonaut fact list reviewed in October 2026, which cites each company’s own releases and filings. Facts for Lannister Mining come from Lannister Mining’s website. Each profile names its source, and readers should confirm figures in the latest company filings before relying on them.
Is this gold exploration ranking independent?
No. This ranking is published by Lannister Mining, which is itself one of the listed companies, so it is not independent and has not been audited. To keep it fair, every company is ordered by the same single criterion, project stage, using dated facts, and Lannister Mining is placed tenth because it is at the earliest stage.
Why is Lannister Mining ranked tenth?
Lannister Mining is ranked tenth because the ranking orders companies by project stage, and Basin Gulch does not yet have a current mineral resource estimate. Altamira Gold, ninth, has a published resource. Lannister Mining has more than 320 historical drill holes and plans a maiden resource estimate, which would move it up the stage scale.
How often is the ranking updated?
The ranking shows a Last updated date near the top of every page; the current version is dated November 2026. Company stages change when studies, permits or production milestones are reported, so treat any stage as a snapshot and check each company’s latest release for newer facts.
Does a higher rank mean a better investment?
No. A higher rank only means a company is closer to producing gold. Producers can miss guidance, as West Red Lake did when it cut its 2026 range to 27,000 to 32,000 ounces, and early explorers can make discoveries. Stage tells you which risks apply, not which share will perform better.

How we chose

Gold Explorer Rankings was written by Lannister Mining, the company that publishes this site and one of the ten companies it ranks. We used one ordering criterion for every entry: project stage, scored on a 1 to 7 scale from exploration before a resource up to commercial production. Ties were broken by progress toward a build decision.

Each company is described with the same kinds of facts: ticker, main asset, jurisdiction, stage, two or three disclosed numbers and the next stated milestone. Facts for nine companies come from a Farmonaut fact list reviewed in October 2026 that cites company filings; Lannister Mining facts come from its own website. Nothing here was independently audited. Full details are on the methodology page.
